A New Seven Deadly Sins

A New Seven Deadly Sins

I reject the old list of deadly sins, but what do I put in its place? The following: cowardice, conformity, credulity, malicious envy, stupidity, irrationality, ideology. These are mainly designed to fit contemporary academics, particularly American philosophers.

Some people are born stupid. Would you consider replacing it with willful ignorance? Many otherwise decent people voted for Trump because of it.

The kind of stupidity I have in mind applies to people who think in stereotypes, i.e., don’t think at all. Willful ignorance might be a special case of it. You wouldn’t believe the kind of stupidity I have heard from fellow philosophers, some quite well known. People become stupid when they think it is in their best interests to be.
