Gang Deportations
Gang Deportations
So far, the deportations to El Salvador have scooped up only Latino men (so far as we know). No women gang members or affiliates thereof have been similarly deported, or non-Latino gang members. But what about criminal gangs of other ethnicities and nationalities? Does the current administration intend to deport female (suspected) criminals to prisons in El Salvador, even mothers of young children? What about Italian gangs operating in the US, or Chinese or Russian or British? Is the plan to send them to El Salvador with the others? Or would they be sent back to their country of origin? Would those countries accept them? How much would they charge? Would there be any due process? If some pale sandy-haired Englishman were accused of gang membership, would he be deported to El Salvador or to the British home counties? Or is it that ethnicity makes a difference? And what counts as gang “membership”? What if a young woman had the job of negotiating with other gangs in order to stop inter-gang violence—is that a deportable offence? Come to think of it, what if some foreign country decides it has had enough of American criminals on its soil and wants to send them all back to America? Would we accept them? They would certainly be undesirables from our point of view. I would also like to know how long the current deported prisoners will stay in the prison they now occupy—a few years, twenty years, for life? Has this been decided? What happens if definitive proof is produced that exonerates many or most of them? Will they be released? I have the feeling that none of this has been thought out. Was the whole thing really a stunt for the cameras with no judicial questions raised? Was it endorsed by the Department of Justice? Just asking.

Trump is a gang leader. He and the members of his gang don’t care about other gangs. “Gang” is a euphemism for Latinos, just as opposition to DEI is a euphemism for racism and sexism.
What happens if definitive proof is produced that exonerates many or most of them? Will they be released? Of course not. They’ve admitted that Abrego Garcia is innocent, and they won’t release him. Also, although the media focus their attention solely on Abrego Garcia, every other person whom Trump has deported to the El Salvador prison is in the same position as Abrego Garcia. None has been given due process of law, so all may be as innocent as he is. In fact, without due process of law, all are presumed as innocent as he is.
I agree with every word of this.
“I have a feeling that none of this has been thought out.” I have a feeling that you’re right. I have a feeling that there isn’t a whole lot of thinking going on in general with this Republican “gang.” You raise a lot of good points (in the form of questions). “What happens if definitive proof is produced that exonerates many or most of them? Will they be released?” Trump is a man who once took out a full page ad in the New York Times calling for the death penalty for five youths who 13 years later were proven innocent. He’s still never to my knowledge admitted they were innocent. Just as he’s never admitted he lost the election in 2020 or admitted anthropogenic climate change is real. They’re still claiming this man sent back to El Salvador is a violent gang member. What on earth could possibly constitute “definitive proof” to those of that ilk? Everything that’s happening right now with this administration is just absolutely disgusting.
Trump not only has not admitted that they were innocent; he claimed during the 2024 campaign that they were guilty. They are currently suing him for defamation, and a week ago a federal judge ruled that the men had presented enough evidence to pursue their lawsuit.

No surprise at Trump’s laying waste to basic human rights for fascism is the natural endpoint of modern conservatism. This is not a fluke, this is the booty of a roughly half century putsch. Fascism is about raw power, slurping it up with no utensils; conservatism pretends to have table manners- but the dish it serves is raw power just as well.
At bottom, most people don’t care about democracy, because that means they don’t have power over others. What people believe in is tyranny of the majority.
Do most people not believe in rule of law too, or do most people or Americans beleive in Jesus instead of Dempcracy or law?
Yes.
I guess this is America so most people care most about fiancial gain
Yes.
That’s why Clinton’s campaign said famously it’s the economy stupid and most people are so ignorant about money and business they think or thought Trump is a brilliant businessman.
